Age Dependency

a ratio of total number of dependent age groups over independent age groups; higher age dependency indicates an area has more dependent age groups, and vice versa.

Bottom Income Decile

the percentage of people in the last 2 bottom rank (poorest) of economic family after-tax income group; calculated from the sum of data under the names “in the bottom decile” and “in the second decile” from Statistic Canada 2016 Census

Dependent age group

the total number of people between age 0-14 and 65-85 and over, data obtained from Statistic Canada 2016 Census

Eastern Charlotte Waterways

Income Ratio

a ratio calculated from dividing top income decile by bottom income decile; a comparison between the ratio of the richest people and the poorest people in an area; higher income ratio indicates higher ratio of people from top income bracket, and vice versa.

M-Chart

M is short for Matryoshka. Like the wooden doll, this chart has multiple layers, with each layer representing a different community scale (e.g. city, county, province). The chart also has a polygon shape, each point of a polygon represents a socioeconomic factor. The shape of the chart is flexible depending on how many factors are included in the analysis.
