Sorosilicates

Habit: Colorless, white, gray, pale blue or pink. Crystals commonly prismatic, tabular to 5 cm.; also granular or massive. Vitreous to greasy luster; translucent. White streak.


Environment: Characteristic of low-temperature metamorphism, commonly occurring in glaucophane schists with chlorite, epidote and pumpelyite.


Etymology: Named in honor of a Scottish-American geologist at the University of California, Andrew Cowper Lawson (1861-1952).
