Habit: Colorless, pale yellow or light green. Short prismatic to tabular crystals. Vitreous luster; transparent to translucent. White streak.

Environment: Found in nepheline-syenite pegmatites.

Etymology: From the Greek for "white" and "to appear," for its usual color.
