Double-Chain Inosilicates

Habit: White, gray, brown or green. Bladed and prismatic crystals or fibrous. Vitreous luster; transparent to translucent. Gray white streak.


Environment: Widespread in medium- to high-grade metamorphic rocks; also occurs in metasomatized contact metamorphic rocks.


Etymology: From its occurrence in the Gèdre area of France, which is in the Pyrenees Mountains, very close to Spain.
