Double-Chain Inosilicates

Habit: Black, dark green, green brown or yellow. Prismatic crystals. Vitreous luster; semitransparent. Greenish gray streak.


Environment: Occurs in nepheline syenite and granite and in schists, gneisses and amphibolites.


Etymology: Named for its occurrence in Hastings County, Ontario. The Royal Ontario Museum houses the "type" material for hastingite, which is the reference specimen for this mineral.
