Single-Chain Inosilicates

Habit: Pale pink, rose red, salmon red, deep orange, brown or colorless. Prismatic to acicular, bladed, blocky or tabular crystals; also radiating crystal aggregates or massive. Vitreous or greasy luster; transparent to translucent. White streak.


Environment: Occurs in sodalite zenoliths and pegmatites, phonolite and contact metamorphic rocks.


Etymology: Named after J.M. Sérand, a mineral collector from West Africa who assisted in obtaining the first samples.
