Gerhardtite - Cu₂NO₃(OH)₃

Habit: Emerald green to dark green. Thick tabular crystals. Vitreous luster; transparent. Light green streak.

Environment: A rare secondary mineral in oxidized portions of copper deposits.

Etymology: Named in honor of Charles Frederic Gerhardt (1816- 56), an American chemist who first prepared the artificial compound.
