Habit: Colorless, white in aggregates or gray if included in clays. Distinct crystals rare; can be small nodular, rounded or lens-like masses; typically elongated to acicular, forming fibrous cotton-ball-like masses, in compact parallel fibrous veins, or in radiating and compact nodular groups. White streak.
Environment: Found in arid regions, particularly salt playas and desiccated saline lakes.
Etymology: Named after George Ludwig Ulex (1811-83), a German chemist who first correctly analyzed the species. Ulexite is called "TV rock" or "television stone" because it can transmit images through its fibers.
