Habit: Pale yellow to yellowish brown, orange yellow, orange red, white or colorless. Crystals simple barrel shapes; also botryoidal, globular, reniform or granular, and rarely tabular or acicular. Resinous to subadamantine luster; translucent. White streak.
Environment: Occurs as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of arsenic-bearing lead deposits.
Etymology: From the Greek word for "imitator," because of its resemblance to pyromorphite.
