Habit: Yellow, brown, white, orange or reddish orange. Crystals complex, highly modified; massive. Vitreous luster; transparent to translucent. White streak.


Environment: Occurs in kimberlite, carbonatites, peridotites, metadunites and serpentinites in orogenic belts such as the Alps and the Apennines.


Etymology: Named for its crystal system — monoclinic — and its position in the humite group.
