Nesosilicates

Habit: Colorless, white, yellow or pale red. Crystals rhombohedral, tabular to prismatic, less commonly acicular and granular. Vitreous luster; transparent to translucent. White streak.


Environment: Found in granitic pegmatites and schists and as a product of beryl alteration.


Etymology: From the Greek for "deceiver," because it is often mistaken for quartz.
